DU teacher’s suicide attempt video finds its way to YouTube

Four days after a former Delhi University teacher set herself afire alleging that she failed to get justice after she filed a sexual harassment complaint against the principal of a DU college, Delhi police failed to make any breakthrough in the case.

To add insult to injury, a video of her suicide bid has made its way to YouTube. The video was reportedly made by a passerby on Monday at around 5.15 pm outside the Delhi Secretariat. The man later uploaded it on YouTube. The video has so far received 250 clicks.

Pavitra Bharadwaj was admitted to a city hospital with 95 per cent burn injuries.

Apart from lodging a complaint under section 309 (attempt to commit suicide) against Pavitra, the police has done little so far. It has not even questioned the accused principal.

Pavitra’s husband Dharmender Sharma, head constable in Delhi police’s communication department said, ‘No one is hearing our version. We want justice and my wife was fighting for her rights because of which DU terminated her services one and a half years ago.’

Pavitra was a former lab attendant in Ambedkar College. Speaking to Millennium Post, BR Arora, principal of the college said, ‘The allegations are false. It is a criminal conspiracy against me.’
