Academics for Action Development (AAD) of Delhi University in it's meeting held at Open School of Learning at 2pm on Friday, suspended three of its members for gross indiscipline, with immediate effect. The suspended members are SC Panda, Rajiv Kumar Verma and J Khuntia. All three formed part of the top leadership of the most powerful teachers body on the campus.
Aditya Narayan Mishra, chairman of AAD and member of the executive council of Delhi University said that 'they (the triumvirate) have crossed the limits of misconduct. They conducted parallel meetings on four different instances without calling all the members and decided things on their own which is highly deplorable.' Mishra, who is also a former three-time president of Delhi University Teachers Association (DUTA), said, 'The suspended members have been divested of all responsibilities with immediate effect.' Khuntia was general secretary of AAD, Rajiv Kumar Verma press secretary and SS Panda senior member of the executive.
Rekha Dayal, vice chairperson of AAD, said Adtitya Narayan Mishra was unanmiously accepted as the chairman of the body after its founder SS Rathi passed away. 'Since then there have been instances of misconduct by these three people.'
Dayal said that they wanted to grab control of the organisation after Dr Rathi's death whereas several hundreds of teachers elected Mishra as the chairman of the organisation. 'Their sidelining will not affect the working of AAD and the organisation would emerge stronger from this crisis,' said Dayal.
Krishan Lal who is the organising secretary of AAD said members and the chairperson of AAD many a times tried to persuade them to give up their divisive policies but 'our efforts went in vain.' The meeting on Friday was attended by a large number of teachers, including senior professors and woman teachers, from various colleges.
