DU student to climb everest

Saachi Soni,19, a student of Delhi university, has been chosen for an expedition to the world’s highest peak – Mount Everest – scheduled to begin in April next year.

Soni,a native of Jaipur has been selected by Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, Darjeeling for the expedition scheduled from 6 April 2013 to 25 May 2013.

Saachi said, ‘It is a privilege. I feel great to be chosen for such an expedition to scale the world’s highest peak. I will work hard to bring laurels to my country.’

Saachi, who will be a part of eight member group, is pursuing a course in Mass Media from Indraprasth College for women and is looking for sponsorship to support her expedition. Mount Everest (8,850 mt) is located in Himalayan region of Nepal.

According to her, she started actively participating in adventurous sports at the age of seven and has scaled four peaks in Garhwal and Sikkim Himalayas – Mt Bandarpunch (21,600 ft), Mt Renok (18,000 ft), Mt DKD (17,800 ft) and MT V C Roy (20,000ft).
