DU Pro V-C resigns, varsity plunges in crisis

Delhi University which is competing to be on par with international universities may now see its four-year degree programme being jeopardised. On Friday, the university’s Pro Vice Chancellor Vivek Suneja, who was heading the upcoming Baccalaureate programme resigned from his post citing personal reasons. DU university officials informed that Suneja’s resignation has been accepted by the Delhi University administration. Sources in DU administration indicate that serious difference of opinion had emerged between Suneja and the Vice Chancellor Dinesh Singh over the delegation of duties. Suneja however, could not be contacted for comments.

‘Suneja is the second senior official to resign from his post in recent times. Four months ago, H P Singh, dean of examination had resigned from his post citing personal reasons,’ informed Saikat Ghosh, executive member of  Delhi University Teachers Association(DUTA). Sources though indicated that differences with DU officials had led to Singh’s resignation.

Suneja was responsible for the four-year-degree programme which is to be kick-started from the coming academic year. Senior DU officials said that the project may be held up because of his resignation. The former pro-VC has been the chairman of a 61-member task force that had been entrusted with the task of preparing the reform package for the university.
