DU Pol. Sc. results raise a stink

The controversy over the Result of MA Political Science in Delhi University has cropped up again and sent shock waves among the students after the announcement of the result last week.

This year’s academic assessment in the Department of Political science declared that more than 55% of the students (final year) had failed and around 30% ended up in ‘E.R’ in the paper on International Political Economy. To oppose this mass failure students decided to protest and sit for dharna at the Faculty of social Science on Monday.

A student who did not wish to be named said, 'This is not the first time that the results in political science have come under public scrutiny. There have been cases of mass failures in the preceding years as well.'

A senor student said that 'The students of the department of political science had earlier in April 2012, organised a massive demonstration against the pathetic level of marking in the internal exams (in Paper on Political Economy and Western Political Thought).

The faculty then had to partially heed to the demands of the students by conducting re-test for the paper in which massive low marks in internals has been earmarked (the paper on Western Political Thought). There have been incidents during the earlier protest in which some faculty members personally threaten the students’ one by one of dire academic consequences if not withdrawn from the protest.'

Another student who did not wished to be named said 'the faculty in the Political Science department of DU has itself turned out to be the center of egoism and academic arrogance which is clearly evident in the ‘post internal exam behavior’ (2012) of some of the esteemed Professors towards the victimised students. This nexus of target mechanism in the department not only has failed hundreds of students but also blocked the future prospects of the many bright students.

This is clearly evident in this year’s results where a number of students have been barred from attaining 55% with in levels of 2 marks, 3 marks, 5 marks, 10 marks etc.'

When sought for an opinion PK Dutta head of the political department said that 'I have no got any intimation from the students and I don't have any information regarding this matter.' He refused to comment further.
