DU lifts freeze on college teachers’ appointments

Delhi University has lifted the freeze on the fresh appointment of college teachers. A letter to this effect was written by the dean of colleges to all college principals to initiate the process, which had been put on hold for the past two-and-a-half years.

In his letter, the dean has said, ‘It is imperative on the part of  colleges to review the requirements of teachers in each discipline on priority basis so as to ensure that the process of recruitment of teachers in the colleges is initiated prior to commencement of the new academic session 2013-14.’

The letter added that colleges should immediately begin the process of recruitment of teachers by following the due process and procedures of recruitment.
Once the required strength of teachers in each subject has been determined by the college after re-distribution of workload, they may re-cast the recruitment rosters(s) and send the same to the university for approval so that the posts could be advertised.
Aditya Narayan Mishra, executive council member of Delhi University and chairperson, AAD welcomed the letter as ‘a positive step in the right direction’.

He demanded that colleges should organise the selection committees without further delay as more than 4,000 adhoc and temporary teachers are undergoing trauma and agony everyday.
Mishra added, ‘the teaching experience of adhoc and temporary teachers must be given due weightage at the time of permanent appointment .’
