DU grabs a place in limelight yet again over 4,000 ad hoc teachers

Delhi university (DU) seems to be mired in controversies these days. If the scuffle over four-year degree programme has propelled DU to the centre of attention, the brewing war of words between the left, Indian National Teachers’ Congress and Academics for Action Development (AAD) over ad hoc teachers is yet another attention grabber.

Aditya Narayan Mishra, chairman of AAD and executive member of DU claimed that ‘Left is blocking the appointment of 4,000 ad hoc teachers’ by delaying the approval of service conditions of teachers. In the name of opposing the academic reforms, the Left is holding the entire teaching community to ransom. This is strongly resented to and opposed by the entire democratic teaching fraternity of DU.’

According to Mishra, the trauma and ordeal, which 4,000 ad hoc teachers are going through has to be immediately addressed.

On the other hand,  Saikad Khosh, member of Delhi Teachers Federation, said, ‘The allegation are baseless.’ Khosh said ‘The Congress was silent regarding the reforms.’

S D Siddiqui, general secretary of Federation of Central University Teacher’s Association (FECUTA), said, ‘Unfortunately, these left affiliated-teachers activists have been trying to deflect from the core issues, thus jeopardising the career prospects of 4,000 ad hoc teachers.’

Meanwhile, Congress and Pro-Congress teachers’ organisation of DU also said the time has come to immediately address the ordeal, of 4,000 ad-hoc temporary teachers.
