Over 2.75 lakh applications were received during the two-week long registration process at University of Delhi, breaking records of previous years, officials said.
The admission processs is set to enter the second phase with colleges releasing their first cutoff on 24 June.
According to official data, 274,381 forms were received by the university till 6 pm on Monday, surpassing the previous record of 254,339 forms.
While the offline form submission ended at 6 pm, the online form submission will be allowed till 12 midnight and the total number of forms received by the university will be known on Tuesday.
Monday being the last day of submitting applications, the university went easy on students. It asked colleges to accept forms until 3 pm. At some of the admission centres like Daulat Ram College the counters remained for open until 4 pm to submit their applications.
‘Thankfully, the college has extended the timings. Otherwise, in a hurry most of the students don’t fill the forms correctly,’ said Lhusino Sale, who ran a student help desk at Daulat Ram College.
The total number of students who paid at online portal by 6 pm on Monday are 1,50,021. Whereas total number of offline forms received till same date are 1,24,360.
Given the popularity of online forms this year, the last day of admission process at DU wasn’t crowded like usual.
‘Though generally on the last day, thousands of people turn up. ‘But this time, due to more popularity of online admission forms, the crowd was less,’ said Ashish Sharma, a volunteer at help desk organised by National Students’ Union of India (NSUI).
Online forms due to their easy accessibility and hassle free nature have gained popularity amongst students.
‘Nowdays, most of the students have knowledge of computers. So, online forms become a comfortable option as one doesn’t have to stand in long queues or come again and gain,’ said an aspirant of DU.
The varsity had accepted application forms till Monday midnight.
