An Executive Council member of DU has written to the UGC chairman Ved Prakash, urging UGC to intervene and stop the implementation of the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme, scheduled to be introduced from July 2013.
Abha Dev Habib in her letter to the UGC mentiond that the FYUP has received much criticism from the faculty members within the University and from educators and concerned citizens across the country. Many pertinent issues have been raised which need to be addressed. ‘ Since I had last written to you (letter dated 1 May 2013), I have learnt that because of your intervention, the University of Delhi has proposed changes in the nomenclature of the degrees under FYUP,’ she has said in her letter.
According to Habib, 'The most important issue, is that the University of Delhi is a Central University, and any radical change of this nature has to be debated at the national level'.
