In a first of its kind initiative, the Academic Council of Delhi University on Friday approved the introduction of Masters degree in Chinese and Korean languages, after an eight-hour long meeting chaired by Dinesh Singh, vice-chancellor of Delhi University.
Amitava Chakraborti, Academic Council member of Delhi University, told Millennium Post, ‘The Academic Council has given its approval to the syllabus of the MA Degree programme in Korean and Chinese languages. The syllabus was passed by hundred members of AC in the presence of Dinesh Singh.'
Chakraborti added, 'The AC has introduced new examination patterns for the foundation courses. Under the new pattern, the AC has given weightage of 55 marks to internal assessment and 20 to written examination, out of the total 75 marks. Earlier, the division was 35 for internal assessment and 40 for written examination.'
The issue of appointment of teachers was also debated in the meeting, but many elective members were not given the chances to present their views.
Chakraborti added, ‘The V-C got infuriated on the issue of appointment of teachers and put it to vote to reach a decision.’
The resolution of the Academic Council will be tabled in a meeting of the Executive Council, scheduled to be held at 2 pm on Saturday for its approval.
