DTC launches special drive to control ticket-less travelling

Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) came up with a five day drive of special checking to control ticketless travelling, which started from Monday and will continue till Friday. This is to assure the smooth operation of DTC buses and check the leakage in profit through ticketless travelling.

According to a senior DTC official, ‘The corporation has set up all its officers and traffic supervisory staff on the field in morning and evening shifts at 194 points all over the capital.’

Besides ticketless passengers, the checking officials will also detect the conductors involved in non-issue of tickets after collecting due fare and also not asking tickets from the passengers.

Similarly drivers are also being checked for not halting the bus at proper stops, driving the bus with open gate, rash driving and so on. By Tuesday noon, a total of 8,273 buses were checked. During the course of checking, 404 passengers besides 67 Delhi Police and government officials were found travelling without tickets.

Sharat Kumar, senior manager and PR of DTC, said, ‘By Tuesday noon, 32 passengers were found travelling on less denomination tickets. A passenger was also found with a fake pass. Five conductors were found not asking tickets from the passengers and as many as 492 operational staffers were found without uniform. 47 drivers were booked for rash and negligent driving and four drivers were found driving the bus with gate open. Serious disciplinary action is being initiated against mistaken officials and measures for smooth and punctual operation of bus service are being taken by the corporation in view of reports given by the checking team heads.’

Amit Kumar, a daily bus commuter said, ‘Finally, DTC is taking some actions to improve its services which will help to reduce our problem while commuting in DTC buses. The main problem that we come across is when the Bus drivers does not halt the bus at the proper bus stop.’

Anand Sharma, chief PRO of DTC, said, ‘It’s high time now that we start taking strict actions against those commuters who travel without the ticket. Rules should make sense to the commuters’.
