DTC crushes 9-year-old to death

A 9-year-old boy was crushed to death by a DTC bus on late Saturday night in Najafgarh area of south-west Delhi. On Sunday morning, a protest was carried out by the family of the deceased and local residents of the area.
The incident took place around 11 pm, when a speeding DTC bus without any passengers hit the boy who was playing outside his residence. The errant driver was unable to apply brakes after he hit the boy, and crushed him to death.
The deceased was identified as Piyush, the only son of his parents.
The driver managed to escape from the crime scene. One of the passersby witnessed the accident noted the number of the bus and handed it over to the police. ‘A manhunt is on to trace the driver,’ said the police official.
After the post-mortem, the body was handed over to the family. A case has been registered against the errant driver, who has been absconding, for negligent and rash driving, causing death.
On Sunday morning, an hour-long protest was carried out and traffic was stopped. After police intervened and took the public in confidence, then only the mob came under control.
