Delhi State Industrial Development Corporation(DSIIDC) has prepared detailed estimates for comprehensive redevelopment, up-gradation and maintenance of roads, drains, greens and street lights in industrial areas before the monsoon. DSIIDC has received approval for the estimated project cost of Rs 70 crore.
According to DSIIDC officials, ‘It is very small scale redevelopment work and is being undertaken to meet the requests and requirement of the industrial sector.’
‘This redevelopment and repairing of roads and drainage will be done under the provision of urgent needs. Broken down roads and drains and civic amenities like water supply, sewerage will receive priority. Work will be done before the onset of the monsoon,’ said an official.
Delhi Industrial Development Operation Maintenance Act 2010 was passed by the Delhi Legislative Assembly of NCT on 30 March, 2010, to make special provisions for securing the orderly establishment of industrial areas, industrial estates and factories complexes in Delhi and to assist generally in the organisation.
The principal objective of the Act is to create and develop a sustainable framework for the management of industrial estates and to bring uniformity in infrastructural facilities through a single implementing agency, the DSIIDC. The Act came into force on 28 March 2011.
According to the Act, The DSIIDC had taken over 29 industrial estates from the Municipal Corporation of Delhi and Delhi Development Authority under the new Industrial Maintenance Law.
DSIIDC sources said that the Delhi government has desired that a self-sustaining model of development and maintenance of industrial areas be developed by the DSIIDC.
However, it is also a fact that civic infrastructure in most of the industrial areas, which are now more than 30-4o years old. are in urgent need of up-gradation and enhancement of capacity in view of increase in economic activities and development of the city over period of time.
It is noteworthy that there are 29 industrial areas in Delhi and the most important ones, where redevelopment and maintenance activities will be taken up shortly, are Wazirpur Narayana, Mangolpuri Narela and Bawana industrial areas.
