Drunken brawl between 2 youth fires communal tension

Senior police officers of the South District said that a case of rioting under relevant sections of the IPC has been registered and 20-25 people have been detained. Meanwhile, Delhi Police denied that Section 144 has been imposed in the area.

According to the senior police officers, the incident came to light at around 11 pm in the Asola village area when some youth sitting outside their homes engaged into a heated argument. This escalated into a scuffle when elders too got involved. Both the communities reportedly started pelting stones, empty bottles and bricks at each other.

In a bid to control the situation, some locals informed the police. When the local police tried to control the tensed situation, they too suffered minor injuries in the violence. Six to seven policemen suffered minor injuries while windows of the police vehicles were allegedly damaged. All the injured were rushed to AIIMS Trauma Center.

Police also said that additional force from the CP (Commissioner of Police) reserve has been deployed to control the situation.“We have deployed additional forces from CP reserve to control the situation.

However, we have not imposed Section 144 as the incident was not of that magnitude which would have required imposition of Section 144,” said a senior cop. Further investigation is on.
