Drunk woman driver crushes man to death

A 17-year-old boy was crushed under the wheels of a speeding I-10 Hyundai car in the Ambedkar Nagar area of Delhi on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday. The car was being driven by an allegedly drunk woman driver. The teenager died on the spot and the police have apprehended the accused woman.

'The incident took place at about 12.30 am near Ambedkar Nagar when a speeding car hit a scooty. Due to the head-on collision, the two-wheeler rider fell under the tyre of the car and died on spot,' said a police official.

The deceased has been identified as Vishnu, who lived in the Madangir area. At the time of the accident, he was returning home from his friend's place. The accused has been identified as the 23-year-old Sonia Gaur, also a resident of Madangir.

The police suspects that the woman could control her car when she saw the scooty coming from the front as she was allegedly drunk. After the accident, a crowd gathered at the spot and did not let the accused go and informed the police, who in turn took the victim to the hospital for a post-mortem examination. They also arrested her and booked her for drunken and rash driving, causing death. 'During the investigation, it was found that she was heavily drunk,' a police official said.

Vishnu was an undergraduate student. He is survived by his parents and three sisters. His father, Ram Prasad works as a clerk, while his mother is a housewife. The official investigating the case said, 'The deceased did not have a driving license, as he was under-aged. Also, he was not wearing a helmet while riding the two-wheeler.'

The accused works in a private firm in Noida.
