Drunk DU student murders friend over ‘petty’ altercation, surrenders

A 20-year-old youth surrendered at the Maurice Nagar police station after allegedly killing his friend, both students of the Delhi University, at the campus in north Delhi on the intervening night between Friday and Saturday.

The deceased, identified as Ngu Lin Lan (21), hailed from Manipur and was living in a rented accommodation near Maurice Nagar and the accused was identified as Ninjoy (20). Both of them were DU students, said a senior police official.

The senior police official said the incident took place on Friday night, when both the accused and the victim were having a party at the victim’s place, at Christian Colony opposite to the Maurice Nagar police station, and both of them were drunk.

‘After an altercation over some petty issue, Ninjoy took out a knife and slit the victim’s throat,’ said a police official. He further said, Ninjoy went outside his residence and ran into a friend, who persuaded him to report the matter to the police. After that, Ninjoy went to the police station in blood-stained clothes, accompanied by his friend and confessed to the murder, said Madhur Verma, DCP (North). He said the police went to the victim’s room and found his body lying on a pool of blood.

‘The weapon of offence was also recovered from the spot and Ninjoy was arrested under section 302 (murder) of IPC,’ he added.
