Drunk cop caught while asking for bribe

An assistant sub-inspector of Delhi police was caught creating ruckus in a market of Uttam Nagar area, in an inebriated condition, on Friday. The drunk policeman, identified as Mohammad Iqbal, 45, has been posted in a police station of north -east district as assistant sub-inspector. He was recently promoted to this post and is undergoing training in Jharoga. Surprisingly, a few days ago, he was a head constable dealing with crimes against women.

A PCR call was made by one Raju, who was an eyewitness to the incident. According to Raju, Iqbal came on his motorcycle bearing a UP number plate and a police sticker on it. ‘He was not wearing a helmet. He then stopped in the market, approached a shopkeeper and demanded bribe. He was unable to walk properly as he was really drunk,’ said Raju.

‘When the shopkeeper refused to give him anything, Iqbal started beating him up. When the locals intervened, he slapped a few other persons as well,’ he added.

After 15 minutes of the PCR call, cops reached the spot and took Iqbal along with them to the police station. A senior police official of Uttam Nagar said, ‘A medical examination was conducted and he was found to be drunk.’ So far, no case has been registered.

Not only this, but V Rangnathan, Additional Commissioner of Police [West], was not even aware about the incident. When Millennium Post contacted him, he said, ‘I am not aware about any such incident.’ When V V Chaudhary, Additional Commissioner of Police [North-East] was called up, he was unavailable for comments.
