Driver tries to run over pedestrian for being told off

With 24 hours, the national Capital witnessed another road rage incident when a car driver allegedly tried to run over a pedestrian, who objected to his rash driving in North Delhi’s Sarai Rohilla area on Monday night.

The incident took place when Ashu, the victim, was crossing the road at Shastri Nagar and was hit by an SX4 car, driven by Ankit, a resident of Gujrawala in North Delhi.

After the minor accident, Ashu objected to his rash driving and advised him to drive properly. According to the victim, the driver became angry and returned to hit him again. As the youth fell down on the road, the accused came out of his vehicle and allegedly started beating him. The passersby saved him and a PCR that reached the spot arrested the accused, police said.

Ashu suffered injuries on his head and legs. In his statement to the police, he said: “A person driving the car hit me when I was crossing a road. He hit me again with his car when I tried to talk to that person. He got off from the car and started beating me. He appeared to have been high on alcohol. A passerby helped me to get out of the situation.” Later, Delhi Police has arrested Ankit and impounded his car. He has been booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.
