Driver dies while trying to save jaywalker at CP

A 24-year-old car driver was killed in an accident at Connaught Place in New Delhi on the wee hours of Saturday.

His car took a sharp drift, when he suddenly noticed two jaywalkers on the middle of the road, hit the pavement and turned over.

The deceased was identified as Ashwini Kumar, who drove a Tata Indigo car of a businessman in east Delhi’s Pandav Nagar.

Ashwini belonged to Himachal Pradesh and had been living in Delhi for many years.

‘Ashwini was returning home from work when the incident took place near Connaught Place B-Block,’ said a police officer.

He further said, initial investigations revealed that Ashwini was speeding ahead, and when he saw two jaywalkers trying to cross the road, he tried his best to avoid hitting them and ended up losing control over the wheels.

‘The car was also hit by another vehicle after which it rammed into the pavement and turned over,’ the officer added.

Ashwini was rushed to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, where he was declared brought dead and his body was sent for a post mortem examination.
