DPS suspends transport supervisor, bus contractor

The administration of Delhi Public School (DPS) has finally taken action in the case of sodomisation  of a six-year-old student in a school bus, by suspending the transport supervisor and bus contractor. The principal had earlier flatly denied the incident and even turned down the demands of parents to take action against the culprits.

‘I am sorry for the incident in our campus and accept the responsibilty in the case,’ said Principal Sharmila Chaterjee. She made the announcement  in a hurriedly-called press conference in her office on Monday evening.

On Sunday, over a hundred guardians had staged a protest at Indirapuram police station, demanding to make the principal a co-accused in the case. Parents accused the school management of trying  to cover up the matter.

‘The principal and management did not take any action and tried to shield the culprits,’ alleged parents.

The case is being investigated by officers of Education department and District Administration, besides police. Meanwhile, senior police officers of Ghaziabad convened a meeting with the management of public schools in the area on Monday and urged them to follow the guidelines of the Supreme Court regarding ferrying of school students. On Thursday evening, the parents of the minor victim had lodged an FIR in Indirapuram police station against the driver and conductor of the school bus for sodomising their daughter.  The police arrested the duo and sent them to jail. The parents alleged they first brought the case to the notice of the principal, who did not take any action.
