A petition has been filed in the court seeking interim injunctions and direction restraining the managing director and executive director of REPCO bank from performing any of their administrative and financial functions pending disposal of the writ petition.
REPCO bank comes under the union home ministry.
The petitioner M Pilani, who is the deputy general manager of REPCO bank, has urged that in accordance with DoPT rules, extension of services beyond 60 years should not be made permissible.
‘Consequent to the Fifth Central Pay Commission’s report, the government has amended the rules imposing a complete ban on extension in services beyond 60 years. Thereby extending the service of R Varadharajan (MD) and M Rajendran (ED) beyond 60 years is in violation of DoPT norms, the petitioner pleads before the court.
The petitioner further stated that the service regulations of the bank too had fixed 60 years as the age for retirement.
In normal practice, government knows the superannuation date of any particular official and takes measures to fulfill the post in advance. However, in this case reportedly action was not initiated.
The petitioner has therefore requested the court to direct the chairman of the bank to impose a ban on extension of in service beyond 60 years and restrain the managing director from performing administrative and financial functions till the disposal of the plea.
