Door-to-door campaign to screen new party members, says Shah

With the ending of “missed call membership drive” on Thursday, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Amit Shah is now all set to concentrate on door-to-door campaign as a “screening drive” to strike off members with dubious background.

Speaking at a press conference, Shah said, “I take pride and pleasure in informing that the BJP has become the world’s largest political party. We had kept a target of crossing the 10 crore-mark and have achieved it.” “From Arunachal Pradesh to Gujarat and from Kargil to Kanyakumari, our party workers put in hard work to make our membership drive successful. There are around 1,600 parties in our democracy, of which only a few have internal democracy. The BJP is among them in which internal democracy is still alive,” he added. The membership drive was launched on November 1 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and ends on Thursday midnight. “The largest number of new members were enrolled in Uttar Pradesh, with over 1.82 crore. From May 1, the party will reach out to all of them. The party will launch a major training programme for its 15 lakh workers that will go on for another three months,” Shah said. On the context of Haryana Agriculture Minister OP Dhankar’s “controversial statement” on farmers, he said, “I don’t support such remarks at all. I feel party leaders should avoid making such comments.” Recently, Dhankar had said farmers who commit suicide were “cowards”.

Commenting on West Bengal civic poll results, he said, “Had the local police not been there, we would not have lost badly. When neutral polls are conducted by the Election Commission with para-military forces deployed in the state, there will be different results.” When asked whether BJP is trying to rope in TMC MPMukul Roy in the party, the BJP president said, question does not arrest..na darkhast hai aur na hi koi soch hai.
