The Election Commission has asked the Delhi government to stall the process for identifying beneficiaries under Food Security scheme till 5 December when the poll process in the national capital will be over.
The EC directive came in reply to a request from Delhi government to continue with identification of beneficiaries as the scheme has already been launched in the national capital. Delhi government had launched the scheme in haste but carried out the exercise of identifying the scheme beneficiaries. EC said identifying beneficiaries during the process would be a violation of the model code of conduct.
Delhi goes to polls on 4 December. Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit had claimed that her government will provide benefits under the scheme to 73.5 lakh people in the city out of the total population of 1.68 crore.
