‘Don’t fritter away anti-Cong atmosphere’

The party emphasised on the need for discipline and improving its image in a meeting of its office-bearers to discuss the strategy and issues ahead of polls in six states and the Lok Sabha elections.

BJP president Rajnath Singh on Sunday convened the meeting of central office-bearers and state presidents and general sectaries to chart the roadmap for the 2014 elections in the country. This was the first meeting since the new team had been announced. Singh in his address said that some party leaders have been announcing names of Prime Ministerial candidates virtually on a daily basis which created unnecessary controversy. This, he said, got highlighted diverting attention from the party's achievements.

Speaking on party’s achievements, Leader of Opposition Lok Sabha, Sushma Swaraj said that some of the achievements of the BJP governments in the states were not publicised well by the party, Sushma specifically mentioned Madhya Pradesh in this regard.

Attending his first meeting after being elevated in the central team of the party, Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi said that from now on our only focus should be elections.  Modi in his address said that inflation and corruption are the two issues that should be raised by our party workers and should be talked about with the common man. Modi also emphasised on the need to tap the youth through social media.

Speaking at the meeting BJP leader LK  Advani said that it was the over confidence of the party in 2004  that led to the loss and now there is a need for caution. this time. The BJP veteran leader was of the view that party workers should use their full potential and not become complacent.

At the meeting Leader of Opposition , Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley ruled out the possibility of formation of a third front government. He also said Congress had done well in the 2009 elections in Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan where it got a total of 160 seats. Now the situation is reversed there and a washout is staring at the Congress said Jaitley.

Party spokesperson Prakash Javadekar later said that in the meeting it was emphasised discipline and a strong organisation were BJP’s strengths and there is a need to make the organisation more robust at the booth level.
