‘Don’t bribe policemen for illegal construction in city’

The Lieutenant-Governor of Delhi Najeeb Jung, on Monday urged people to not bribe policemen for any unauthorised construction in the city. He also added that policemen do not have any ‘inherent authority’ to allow or stop unauthorised construction.
The L-G said this while launching an anti-corruption campaign in association with Delhi Police.
BS Bassi, commissioner of Delhi Police, also made it clear that the force does not have any power to stop unauthorised constructions until they have orders from municipal authorities in the city.
A series of advertisements were launched by the police on Monday, urging people to report any kind of corruption related to the police on its helpline number — 1064 and WhatsApp helpline number — 9910641064.
