The turmoil in AAP did not seem to have much effect on donations as the party received over Rs one crore within the span of a month after its spectacular victory in the Delhi Assembly polls.
In contrast, the party had received donations amounting to a little over Rs 80 lakh after getting a drubbing in the Lok Sabha polls.
A close look at the ‘aaptrends’ website revealed these interesting figures. While the post-Assembly polls figure is a summation of funds received between February 8-March 7, the post-Lok Sabha polls figure takes into account the money donated between May 17-June 16, 2014.
“After the Lok Sabha debacle people had lost faith in our party. But after the stupendous victory in the Assembly polls people’s faith have risen and they are wholeheartedly supporting us,” a senior office-bearer of the party, who was involved in fund raising campaigns during the elections, said.
However, donations, that hit the peak just before the election day, came down considerably after its completion. The party had received a whopping 12 crore and a little over five crore in January and February respectively during the campaign period.
The party had launched several unique initiatives including the ‘I Fund Honest Party’ challenge in line with the Icebucket challenge and also hosted a series of fund raising tea parties and dinners.
