DoE issues notice for coaching facilities on days between exams

With the CBSE board exams just around the corner (March 2), the Directorate of Education (DoE) has issued a notice, suggesting coaching facilities to students of class 12 during the days between exams. Also, with many students giving in to anxiety, counsellors are advising students to eat healthy and get adequate sleep.

The notice issued to the heads of all the government schools in city by the DoE, says “All subject teachers must remain present in school. And all the students of Class XII should be informed about their availability in the school. Parents of weaker students must be separately informed, via telephone or otherwise that respective subject teachers are available in school to answer or sort out the queries and difficulties of their wards.”

It further stated that apart from attending to the academic problems of students, the heads of schools and teachers should give psychological and moral support, particularly to the weaker students and boost their morale.

“The students who were not regular with their studies are more stressed. For them, it is very difficult to learn everything at once,” said Sindhu, a student of class 12, studying in a government school here.

Low concentration and panic attacks, resulting from too much stress has also taken a toll over students.

“On a daily basis, I have been getting cases, where students are too worried about their board examination results – they believe their future rests on it. Undue pressure from society, parents and their high expectations are causing sleeplessness and sometimes severe depression among students,” said Arti Anand, psychiatrist at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital.

She further advised that exercising and adequate sleep can help in the long run.

“For example, walking stairs during free time, cycling or yoga can help students relax and stay focused. Students should get adequate sleep, along with a healthy diet,” she said.
