Doctors remove dandelion plant from inside baby’s ear in China

Doctors in China were stunned to discover a fully blossoming dandelion plant - about two cm long - growing inside a 16-month-old girl’s ear canal.

The baby identified as Ranran had reportedly been suffering from a painful ear infection for over four months before a successful surgery to remove the plant was performed on 25 November.

A dandelion seed which had sprouted and had been growing in the baby’s ear was removed by doctors who said the roots had embedded themselves in the toddler’s ear canal, Beijing Morning Post reported.
The parents of the girl, from the Tongzhou District in Beijing, went to see a doctor at the Capital Institute of Pediatrics. The parents informed that a seed had fallen into the left ear of their daughter, but they didn’t pay too much attention to it until recently, when the girl started scratching the ear.

According to shanghaidaily.com, it took doctors about 10 minutes to remove the partly flowered plant with the help of several assistants.

Doctors said the dandelion seed was tenacious and not easy to remove.
