Doctors remove bullet stuck in Gopal Rai’s neck for 17 years

Rai suffered a direct gunshot wound on his neck in 1999 during his student agitation days in Lucknow University.

He sustained partial quadriplegia and had a miraculous escape from suffering complete irreversible quadriplegia.

For a-year-and-a-half after the gunshot wound, Rai did suffer from a complete quadriplegia after which he slowly started recovering. The condition started improving and three years after the accident, Rai could walk.

Over the years the bullet lodged at the back of his neck migrated to the burrow under skin at the back of the upper thoratic spine.

This resulted in easier accessibility to the wound which led the surgeons at Apollo to remove the lead bullet without complications.

Rai suffers from neurological impairment in the upper right limb and some imbalances in the lower extremities and will be getting further treatment.
