Doctor receives e-mail threatening Pranab

Delhi police have received a complaint from the family doctor of President Pranab Mukherjee alleging that he has received an e-mail a few days ago with threats to Mukherjee. Sources said Dr Shantanu Dasgupta approached Delhi police, complaining about an e-mail which stated, ‘Be ready doctor, Dada’s legs and arms will soon be broken and you will have to treat him.’ The mail was in English.
Delhi police have lodged an FIR and are probing the matter. ‘This is crucial as it involves threat to the President of India. ‘The matter has been forwarded to the concerned unit of Delhi police.’ said a senior police official on condition of anonymity.
Though it may turn out to be a prank, Delhi police are not leaving anything to chances. ‘It’s a top priority case and we are probing it from all possible angles,’ he said. Sources also added that the police are scrutinising the IP address from which the e-mail was sent to the doctor, taking assistance of technical experts in the force. Initial investigations revealed that the server from which the mail was sent is in US. Details are being sought through proper channel.
