Doctor connected to Vyapam probe found dead in Delhi hotel

It is pertinent to mention that he was the chairman of the committee investigating the massive fraud in medical admissions in Madhya Pradesh.

Ironically, Dr Arun Sharma, Dean of Jabalpur NSCB Medical College was found dead a day after a journalist working for a leading news channel died under mysterious circumstances while covering the Vyapam scam. It was learnt that Sharma was supposed to head for Agartala from Delhi as part of an inspection team of Medical Council of India.

According to police, Sharma checked into Uppal Hotel on Saturday evening and requested a hotel staff to wake him up early in the morning as he had to board a flight to Agartala at 4.30 am. As per his request, a wake-up call was made to the landline in room No 234 which went unanswered. He did not respond even after one of the hotel staff went to his room and knocked on the door. The room attendant then informed the hotel authorities who later made a call to the police control room.

A police team rushed to the hotel and broke open the door. Sharma was found lying unconscious on his <g data-gr-id="34">bed .</g> He was rushed to the nearby Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital where he was declared brought dead. His body has been kept in the mortuary and the post-mortem will be conducted on Monday morning.

“A suitcase was recovered from the room along with a bottle of wine.  The circumstantial evidence points to a natural <g data-gr-id="30">death</g> but the exact cause will be ascertained only after the autopsy report. It has been learnt that he was a patient of hypertension and diabetes,” a senior police official said.

CCTV footage accessed shows Sharma purchasing a bottle from a nearby wine shop. “We are probing the case from all possible angles, the investigation is also being done by connecting the strings with Vyapam scam,” the officer added. Sharma is survived by his wife and two sons, currently living in Bengaluru and Pune.

Speaking to Millennium Post, Colonel MK Sharma, brother-in-law of the deceased <g data-gr-id="65">said :</g> “It would be too early to jump into any conclusions. We are waiting for the autopsy report.”

With his <g data-gr-id="62">death</g> Sharma became the second dean of Jabalpur NSCB Medical College to die under mysterious circumstances.

In July last year, the then Dean of NSCB Medical College Dr DK Sakalle had allegedly burnt himself to death. Sharma was in contact with some of the accused in the admissions fraud and was also assisting the Special Task force team investigating the Vyapam scam.
