Doctor behind BMW wheel kills one

In yet another case of death due to rash driving, a 39-year-old lost his life when his Eco Van was hit by a speeding BMW in the wee hours of Monday. The two cars collided head on at Bhagwan Das Road in the Tilak Marg area in the capital.  

‘The incident took place around 1.30 am and it was reported to the police at 1.45 am. Three doctors of the Ganga Ram Hospital were in the BMW. One of the doctors was driving the car,’ a senior police official  said.

The three doctors travelling in the BMW have been identified as Ayush Arora, who was driving the car, Shiv Chadha and Ishan Mittal. Ayush, who hails from Bhiwani was receiving training at the Ganga Ram Hospital. All three are 22 year old.

The victim was identifies as 39-year-old Mohammad Rafiq, a cab driver, who used to live with his family in rented accommodation in Mandawali.

The BMW had the number plate ‘DL 4C AV 5267’ and is registered under the name of  Ayush, the accused in the accident. The BMW was coming from Mandi House to India gate, while the Eco van was coming from the ITO side and going towards  Mandi House. The two cars collided at the signal at Mandi House.

‘Rafiq was immediately taken to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination. Medical examination of all the three doctors was carried out, but no one was found to have consumed alcohol,’ a police official said.

A case of negligent driving leading to death has been registered against Ayush in the Tilak Marg police station.
