DND 2nd phase repair work proves bane for commuters

Commuters were stuck in long jams through out the day on the Delhi-Noida-Delhi flyway that connects both the cities.

The road overlay work of the 9-km stretch has resumed after a gap of two months. NTBCL had temporarily halted the work after June due to the onset of the monsoon season. It is now expected to complete the repair work by the end of this year. While the DND officials claimed that they have taken proper measures to ensure smooth traffic movement, commuters faced a torrid time on the first day of the repair work.

The stretch has been divided into five 1.5-km segments each and the work is being done in two lanes of one carriageway of a single section at a time. On Monday, 1,500 metres of the Delhi to Noida carriageway was taken up for repair work.  DND officials are confident that the timing would not hamper the smooth traffic system. ‘The timing for the repair work is 10.30 am to 5 pm to conduct the resurfacing and to ensure smooth traffic,’  said Anwar Abbasi, spokesperson,  NTBCL.

However, the regular commuters had a different story to tell. Shivang Mathur, a journalist said, ‘There was a huge jam on the DND flyway on Monday evening. While it is not a new scenario on the stretch but the problem has grown manifold due to this work.’ ‘Every now and then there is repair work on the flyway which creates a huge problem for us,’ Mathur added. Atul Agarwal, a software employee in Gurgaon reached home almost an hour late.
