A model of the brand new standard gauge Metro trains, which will be operating on the new Phase 3 Metro corridors, was unveiled on Thursday at the Metro Museum to commemorate the museum’s seventh anniversary.
The model, with a length of about eight feet is an exact miniature replica of the new high tech trains, which are slated to operate on the Majlis Park – Shiv Vihar and Janakpuri West — Botanical Garden corridors by the end of 2016.
“These new generation trains will be suitable to eventually run on UTO (Unattended Train Operation) mode, ie train operators will not be required to operate these trains. All minute details of the new trains have been incorporated in the model.
“The new exhibit was unveiled at the museum on Wednesday by Veerbala, the wife of DMRC’s Managing Director, Dr Mangu Singh, who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest along with the wives of the other functional directors of the organisation,” said DMRC in a statement.
“A brand new photo gallery comprising many rare photographs of important events in the Delhi Metro along with new souvenir items – specially designed pen drives and caps, were also unveiled on the occasion. In another initiative, a ‘creative corner’ was started by the museum where people will be encouraged to display their creative work.
“As the first such initiative, a collection of five photographs of the Metro by a Gurgaon-based photographer will be on display for a week,” it added.
Apart from the above, children from the ‘under-bridge free’ school, Yamuna Bank also took a ride on the Delhi Metro and were taken on a tour of the Metro Museum.
The ‘under-bridge free’ school at Yamuna Bank operates below the Metro viaduct for under-privileged children where more than a hundred children from the nearby areas attend classes.
