Urban Development ministry has asked Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to examine if it can construct an underground metro corridor from Dwarka to Najafgarh instead of an elevated line as per the present plan.
The ministry has received representations from people in the Dwarka area, including those from the area MP Mahabal Mishra, that an elevated line would create much inconvenience as it would result in demolition of shops and buildings.
Officials said that at a meeting held on Friday, top officials of the Urban Development ministry, Delhi government and DMRC deliberated whether the demand to construct an underground corridor was feasible.
Sources said that one of the important factors in taking the decision issue is cost. The construction of elevated corridors is comparatively cheaper than underground tunnel corridors.
