DMRC lists out achievements in 2013

‘Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has taken some concrete steps in the overall functioning of the Metro this year’, executive director (PR) Anuj Dayal said, on the occasion of the  completion of 11 years on Tuesday.

The Delhi Metro achieved a major milestone on 8 August, 2013 when over 25 lakh people traveled on the Metro throughout the day. DMRC recorded its highest ever ridership figure of 25, 04,900 on that particular day. This record was also subsequently broken on 19 August, when 26, 06,364 commuters travelled by the metro.

One of the major achievements this year was the introduction of its first 8-coach train on the Blue Line (Dwarka Sector 21 – NOIDA City Centre/ Vaishali) from 19 August. 8-coach trains were already in operation on the HUDA City Centre – Jahangirpuri corridor, since December, 2012.

Another major achievement was the completion of tunnelling work between Central Secretariat and ITO on 1 October, with the breakthrough of a Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) at ITO, after completing a 700 metre long tunnel on the down line of the Mandi House– ITO stretch.

DMRC also inducted its first six coach train on Line-1 (Dilshad Garden to Rithala - Red Line) from 24 November. This is the first of a total of 10 six-coach trains, which are planned to be brought on Line-1 in a phased manner. DMRC is to start trial runs for the Central Secretariat – Mandi House stretch of the Central Secretariat – Kashmere Gate corridor of Phase 3 on 30 December.

Another key steps taken this year was laying the foundation stone for the construction of a Metro corridor between Mundaka and Bahadurgarh, at 9 Sector, Bahadurgarh on 2 February. Dayal further said that the 11.181 kilometre long corridor between Mundka and Bahadurgarh will be entirely elevated with seven stations (four in Delhi and three in Haryana). It will be an extension of the presently operational Inderlok – Mundka corridor (Line 5) and will run on standard gauge.
