He further informed that the road at Janpath, which was closed on 31 October 2011, was reopened on Wednesday, 17 months after it was closed.

Singh said that approximately 300 meters of the Janpath road, adjacent to the Tibetan Market had been temporarily closed to facilitate work on the Metro line, but access to Tibetan Market, Imperial Hotel, Kidwai Bhawan, Chandralok Building and Janpath Lane had not been totally cut off. From Wednesday full access has been restored to Tibetan Market.

The underground station at Janpath, is part of the 9.37 km-long Central Secretariat-Kashmere Gate Corridor, also called the Heritage Line.

‘Janpath is a major shopping hub for both national and international tourists and this station will connect commuters directly with the Janpath Market area providing easy access to all,’ the DMRC managing director said.

He said that phase III of the Delhi Metro, stretching between Central Secretariat and Kasmere Gate, will be completely underground and will have six stations, Janpath, Mandi House,ITO, Jama Masjid, Lal qila and Kashmere Gate with interchange at Mandi House and Kashmere Gate.

The line will be an extention of the Central Secretariat-Badarpur corridor and will be on Standard Gauge.

‘This corridor will connect areas in old Delhi, like Daryaganj, Delhi Gate and Red Fort with the national capital’s business hub, Janpath,’ Manu said.
