DMRC begin trial runs on first section of Phase III between Central Secretariat to Mandi House

The operation for this section will reduce congestion at the Rajiv Chowk metro station, from where usually commuters change trains to arrive at Mandi House. This is part of a separate route that has been created from Central Secretariat to Mandi House, which will further proceed till Kashmere Gate.  ‘Construction work for the three-kilometre underground stretch, which is part of the Central Secretariat –Kashmere Gate Metro Line, is almost complete and is expected to be opened for commuters by the end of March 2014’, said DMRC’s spokesperson.

The opening of this stretch has been advanced by about six months as this stretch will help a lot in decongesting the busy Rajiv Chowk Metro Station. Commuters, who travel on the Badarpur- Central Secretariat line will be able to change trains at Mandi House, without changing trains twice at Central Secretariat and Rajiv Chowk.

The Mandi House station will be the first inter-change station of Delhi Metro’s Phase-III. It is currently being expanded to cater to the additional passengers who will use the station after the commissioning of this corridor. Approximately 70,000 new passengers are expected to use the station by the year 2016.
