DLF land scam: Cong in tizzy over second clean chit to Vadra

Much to the embarrassment of the Congress leadership, the overzealous bureaucrats of the Congress-ruled Haryana government issued another clean chit to Robert Vadra, the son-in-law of party president Sonia Gandhi, in the DLF land scam case.

The day after the matter came into limelight, all the IAS officers involved in clearing Vadra’s name have gone into a huddle and maintaining silence. Ashok Khemka, the whistleblower in the case, has also been quiet.

A Haryana government panel on Monday rejected senior IAS officer Ashok Khemka’s charge of under-valuation in the land transactions between Vadra and the realty major DLF.

The Congress-led government had appointed a three-member committee, headed by Additional Chief Secretary Krishna Mohan, which on Monday said Khemka had acted beyond the authority vested in him by cancelling the mutation of three-acre land to DLF following the deal with Robert Vadra.

Political observers said that the Congress-led UPA government could have been better without the ill-timed report by a group of loyal officials. ‘The government is facing enough flak on the floor of the House on several count. We could have done better by not reminding the Opposition about Vadra’s land deal,’ said a Congress leader.
