DJB to cover 100 unauthorised colonies with sewarage system

In a significant move, Delhi Jal Board (DJB) has decided to cover more than 100 unauthorised colonies with sewerage system.

According to a DJB official, the move is being taken as part of ‘Swacch Bharat Abhiyan’, a vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

‘DJB plans to commission sewerage system in more than 100 unauthorized colonies by this year. 37 unauthorized colonies have already been brought under DJB’s sewerage system in the current year.

‘The sewerage work is in progress in 162 colonies, along with that, work has been awarded for laying sewerage systems in another 142 colonies. Also, it is expected that, sewer lines in 95 more unauthorized colonies shall be commissioned by March 2015,’ said the official.

The official said that DJB employs the latest technology to lay top-notch infrastructure and provide the best available water and wastewater services to the citizens of Delhi. It has been consistently endeavouring to ensure the abatement of pollution in the River Yamuna.

‘In line with its efforts, DJB is striving hard to provide a sewerage network in unplanned areas such as unauthorized colonies, urban villages, resettlement colonies, slum clusters and rural villages,’ she added. She said that with the laying of sewer systems, DJB aims at reducing pollution in River Yamuna, and thereby, looks forward to provide residents of Delhi with favorable living conditions, better sanitation and environment. As part of its efforts to provide enhanced waste water facilities to the city, DJB has also drafted an integrated and sustainable ‘Sewage Master Plan 2031, supported by a Wastewater Management Information System.
