DJB initiates steps to improve efficiency in water tanker services

Delhi Jal Board on Friday initiated several steps to institutionalise its review mechanism of the tanker services. Tanker services are being reviewed for any discrepancy between the scheduled delivery and real delivery.

Delhi Jal Board’s spokesperson Sanjam Chima informed that the Board has also taken measures to review, and if necessary, augment the number of its water hydrants at the filling point locations to maximise operational efficiency by significantly reducing the time taken between two round trips.

The chief engineers and the superintending engineers of the respective areas have also been requested to personally review all the schedules uploaded on the DJB website and to ensure that the tankers are utilised in a fair, transparent and optimum manner. This move will help DJB to benchmark high levels of transparency by enabling necessary social audit. As a result of the measures taken, the number of trips being undertaken by the tankers has gone up substantially.

However, it is a matter of regret that in some areas vested interests are trying to interfere with DJB’s efforts to bring about efficiency in water tanker services. On 16 January, a mob, led by anti-social elements, targeted and destroyed one mild steel water tanker and damaged another stainless steel water tanker, providing water services to those residents with no permanent water facility. The driver of the tanker was also roughed-up by the mob.
