District-level weightlifting body chief sends notice to Centre to stop IWLF’s grants

P Ravi Kumar, former retired civil servant and president of the Krishna District Weightlifting Association, Vijaywada, Andhra Pradesh, has sent a legal notice to Central government and others to stop all the government grants to Indian Weightlifting Federation (IWLF) and to disaffiliate it with immediate effect for not abiding by the statutotry provisions.
Kumar’s notice claims him to be a dedicated sports promoter of weightlifting in India and his notice sent by his lawyer Orof Amaresh Kumar says, ‘... As such he is very much concerned for the corruption being prevailed in the Weightlifting Sports Organisation in India. He is also pained to learn that even the officials in the Department of Sports, in the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India is party to the huge embezzlement of the large amount of the public exchequers.’

Legal notice by Kumar has been sent to the Union of India through the secretary, Department of Sports, Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Sports Authority of India, Indian Olympic Association, The Registrar of Firms, Societies and Non Trading Corporation of West Bengal, Indian Weightlifting Federation and Weightlifting Federation of India. The notice has also sought fixing the responsibilities on the officers of the ministries responsible to grant recognition to Indian Weightlifting Federation and Weightlifting Federation of India without ascertaining the duly certified copy of the list of the governing bodies of IWFL from the Registrar of Firms Societies and Non Trading Corporation of West Bengal for every year before granting recognition and releasing the grant to the IWLF for the purpose of receiving grant-in-aid.
