AAP national convener and former Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal along with 27 AAP MLAs met president Pranab Mukherjee on Thursday evening. Kejriwal demanded immediate dissolution of the Delhi assembly. He apprised the president of the desperate attempts being made by the BJP to cobble up a majority through horse trading. Kejriwal submitted a memorandum to the president regarding this matter.
Kejriwal, in his memorandum, said: ‘The Delhi assembly was put under suspended animation in February this year. It has been almost five months now and none of the three parties represented in the state assembly namely the AAP, the BJP and the Congress are in a position to form the government in Delhi. The NDA government was sworn in on 26 May, 2014 at the Centre. People had very high hopes from this new government. In the last one month, however, the hopes of the people were shattered because prices of almost all commodities have been rising.’
‘This has severely dented its popularity, due to which it does not want elections in Delhi in the near future. They are afraid that if elections are held in near future, BJP would lose very badly’ said Kejriwal in his memorandum. ‘In the last few days BJP has approached 15 of our MLAs with offers of ministerial berths, properties and cash ranging from Rs 10 to Rs 20 crore. When this did not work, the BJP has now resorted to giving life threats to them,’ he said. Kejriwal urged the president to dissolve Delhi assembly and order fresh elections immediately.
