Disco music king Bappi Lahiri joins BJP ahead of Lok Sabha elections

Around 3.40 pm, Lahiri, who is the music director of the movie promoted by Ashima Films, met the BJP president at his Delhi residence and later his official inclusion in the party was announced at party’s headquarters in the evening by Rajnath Singh.

Lahiri has changed his name from Alokesh to Bappi after coming to the film industry and became popular for his synthesised disco music in Indian cinema. He also sang in many Hindi movies, which came out as a major hit. He became more popular in the 1980s and 90s for his innovative soundtracks in Disco Dancer, Namak Halaal, Dance Dance, Commando, Gang and Sharaabi etc.
Sources said, Bappi himself approached the BJP’s central leadership and the final decision was taken by the party president himself.

There are rumours that the Mumbai Police Commissioner Satyapal Singh might join BJP and is likely to contest the Lok Sabha election from Uttar Pradesh. On Thursday, Satyapal has already submitted his resignation to state Home Minister R. R. Patil.

The other celebrities who have joined the party are Bollywood actor Prashant Narayanan (who has acted in Hindi movie Murder-2 is also a part of this film) and TV actor Gaurav Chopra, Jodhpur-based Bollywood actress Ashima Sharma, filmmaker Sachindra Sharma (who is the director of movie Mumbai Can Dance Saalaa), etc.

Ashima is all set to make her debut in Bollywood. She runs a dancing academy in Jodhpur and also an active member of the youth wing of a political party in Rajasthan. She was first spotted by filmmaker Sachindra during a college event in Jodhpur and offered her to play a role of infamous bar dancer Tarannum.

The movie is based on the revival of dance bars and depicts the story of Crorepati dance bar performer Tarannum Khan played by Ashima.

Meanwhile, in a significant development Dilip Singh Judeo’s nephew Ranvijay Pratap Singh Judeo of BJP elected unopposed to Rajya Sabha from Chhattisgarh and in Daman and Diu Rajnath has appointed Vasubhai Patel as a State President after BM Majhi resigned from the post.
