Dinesh Singh gets principals’ support for 4-year-course

Delhi University on Thursday put to rest all speculations about the introduction of four-year-degree course with Vice-Chancellor Dinesh Singh announcing on Thursday that during his interaction with the principals of the under-graduate colleges he has received a go-ahead. The university also released a statement signed by the principals of 45 of the 62 colleges claiming they are ‘well prepared for the four-year undergraduate programme.’

The statement by principals also rejected the criticism of the introduction of the new course in a section of media terming it ‘needless interference by those superficially acquainted with the processes and activities of the university.’ Another statement issued by the university deans and heads of the post-graduate department went a step further terming the criticisms as, ‘shenanigans of a handful of members of the teaching community.’

Earlier in the day, the vice-chancellor addressed over 3,000 children passing out from different schools of the national Capital to ‘end any misgivings about the four-year-degree course’. The vice-chancellor claimed that ‘more than 90 per cent children approved of the new course.’ These children would form the first batch of the four-year-degree programme which would be launched from academic session 2013-14. The university has already announced that the admission process would begin from 5 June.
