‘Dikshit spent Rs 24 lakhs of govt money for medical expenses’

In a reply to an RTI application, information has emanated that Sheila Dikshit, during her tenure as chief minister, had spent Rs 24,81,594 on personal medical treatment from 2008-2013.

Dikshit’s five cabinet members spent Rs 18,50,543. In five years Sheila Dikshit and her cabinet members spent whopping total of Rs 43,32,137, under government medical expenses.

The application, in possession with Millennium Post, revealed the yearly usage of government money in medical expense. Sheila Dikshit has used Rs 10,84,521 in the last year of her tenure (2013-2014). In 2012-2013, Rs 8,89,541 was availed by her from government msoney. Similarly in 2011-2010 she spent Rs 8,50,741.

However, the concerned authorities denied disclosure of details about the ailments for which the ministers have availed the government’s money as their medical expense.

Haroon Yusuf, who was the minister of Food & Civil Supplies Department and Industries Department used Rs 7,04,099. His maximum usage of money in medical treatment was in the year 2012-2013, amounting to Rs 2,74,833.

Similarly Rs 3,12,921 was spent by Ramakant Goswami, former minister of Industry, Labour, Election, Law & Justice and Parliament Affairs.

Kiran Walia had spent Rs 5,40,400 under medical expenses in the last five years. But from 2008-2010 she has not availed the government money but in 2010-2011 she submitted a bill of Rs 2,92,726 that was paid for by the government.

Former Minister of Health & Family Welfare, AK Walia has used the lowest amount among five cabinet members. Walia spent Rs 1,31,727 and his expense has never gone more than Rs 50,000 in the five years of Congress governance. Arvinder Singh lovely, former Minister for Education, Tourism, availed medical assurance only once in five years. He spent Rs 1,61,396 in the year Rs 2013-2014.
