A day after senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh confirmed his relationship with Rajya Sabha TV journalist Amrita Rai, after their intimate pictures went viral on social networking sites, a case against an unidentified person has been lodged with Delhi Police Crime Branch under IT Act.
On Thursday evening, Amrita Rai lodged a complaint at the Crime Branch against an unknown person who has allegedly hacked into Rai’s account. ‘We have received a complaint by Rai alleging that someone had hacked her Facebook and Twitter accounts and accessed the photographs. Later the hacker has leaked the photographs in order to outrage her modesty. Based on her allegations, a case has been registered under relevant sections,’ a senior police official said.
According to the police, a case under Section 66 (punishment for sending offensive messages through communication service) of Information and Technology Act and Section 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty) of Indian Penal Code has been lodged. ‘Further investigation is on to trace the identity of the accused,’ the official added.
