Referring to the story carried on Monday, 15 September in page one of Millennium Post, Mohammed Aslam, vice chancellor of Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) issued a rejoinder saying that he was misquoted. ‘I have not made any such statement instead what I mentioned was that Security Forces are doing commendable job and are facing difficulties in rescuing the people because of the design of the residential houses which are tin roofed making difficult for the Army to rescue the people through helicopters,’ he said in an email sent to Millennium Post.
‘I also did not make a statement that tourists and labourers were picked up first and that Kashmiri were attended much later. I had said we witnessed a large number of tourists and labrourers stuck at the airport who were rescued from the various places waiting to be airlifted,’ he added.
However, Professor Aslam corroborated parts of the story, saying, ‘I did mention that lack of coordination and unpreparedness compounded the problem.’
