Despite precautionary measures of medical officials to prevent diarrhoea from spreading into other regions of Greater Noida, more people, especially women are reported to be affected in the neighbouring villages.
In the last three days, two children have died in Birampur village in Greater Noida and hundreds have fallen ill due to the deadly disease. On Tuesday, 18-month-old Pranjali succumbed to the disease while condition of dozens was stated to be critical.
The medical officials, who have been stationed in the region, confirmed that people have fallen ill with symptoms of chemical-endorsed-diarrhoea. RK Garg, chief medical officer of Gautambuddh Nagar, said, ‘We have diagnosed the disease and found symptoms of chemical induced diarrhoea. A team of 15 doctors equipped with medicines and six ambulances have been stationed there,’ Garg said.
The doctors examined 63 people on Tuesday and found seven patients affected with diarrhoea. ‘The other patients have symptoms of fever, cough and other normal problems,’ Garg added. The authorities have said that the disease spread a few days ago when some children went to a local paddy field and developed symptoms of nausea, fever, and dehydration. Parents admitted their children to local hospitals where their condition deteriorated.
Meanwhile, local residents said that hundreds of people are suffering from the disease and the medical care provided to the patients is poor.
The concerned villagers have started shifting patients from government-run medical camp to private hospitals for better medical care. Health officials said that polluted water and unhygienic food have worsened the situation in the area.
