Dhoni files Rs 100 cr defamation case against two channels

The court, in its interim order, also restrained the media houses from insinuating Dhoni’s honesty and integrity in a Rs 100 crore defamation case filed by the cricketer.

Dhoni had filed the suit against the media companies and also suspended Tamil Nadu police official G Sampath Kumar.

The Indian captain in his suit had said since 11 February, Zee News channel and its editor and business head Sudhir Chaudhary colluded with Sampath Kumar to telecast false news reports, which insinuated Dhoni was involved in betting and match/spot fixing. Dhoni alleged the reports marred his reputation and image worldwide.

Meanwhile, rebutting the allegations, Zee TV on Wednesday maintained it has not telecast or shown any footage or dialogue to malign the image of Dhoni.

The channel clarified it had telecast the story which was based on Vindu Dara Singh and Sampat Kumar’s statements during the sting operation which was telecast on 24 and 28 February, respectively, by Zee.
